Can we talk about how great the opening chase sequence from Quantum of Solace is?
Two of the finest designs from the mid-2000s going head to head, no holds barred, on some beautiful Italian backroads. It hurts to see such beautiful sheetmetal get destroyed but it’s beautiful to listen to those engines roar.
Some of the shots used throughout the chase are gorgeous car porn as well...
Maybe I’m finally really warming to Quantum after ten years.

I wasn’t a fan. I liked the cars and the setting, but it was kinda underwhelming, they just went through a tunnel for a while and onto a dirt road and that was it. Nothing very technical or interesting IMHO.
I even stumbled onto this video some time after seeing it, it makes some good points, too, even though I can’t stand the guy.
Edit: It’s clear that he’s not a car enthusiast because I knew what was going on because I’m sure that you and I can tell within a second which car is which. I’m just saying that the scene was not creative in any way, I think that it was too simple and forgettable.

back when I used to post car gifs on tumblr I made this one. I should re-make it again without the blog’s name watermarked on it. I’m also much better at making them now than I was back then!

The single best car chase in any movie if you ask me.

I think it’s my favourite car chase, because car chases either have supercars but they can’t damage it so it ends up like a B-Roll, or use shitboxes. action. One of the highest, adrenaline pumping moments of the film, and the part us car enthusiasts are waiting for, and the main focus is an old Hyundai. Quantum has that rare combo of contact, and a great fast car. And it goes hard on the contact, even more than most chases with shitboxes, and that gives a great sense of realism, ironically. Though I do have to admit, the editing could be much better. Also I love how the car is still drivable at the end, instead of just totalling the car at the end like every other car chase. And the chasing cars aren’t some overdone blacked out german car or SUVs, but Alfa Romeos!
